Introduction to our Parent Champion

Hannah Gooch- Parent Champion

What does a parent champion do?

Hannah has joined us to help us identify the best way to communicate with parents, and to be a voice for parent views. She is new to her role although she has also been a parent governor with us since November 2023. Over the next months Hannah will be introducing herself to our parents and inviting you in for a coffee morning to help us to shape her work.  To contact Hannah please email hannah.gooch@ne.sparkofgenius.com or call the main school office.

All about Hannah- in her own words
For the last 5 years I have been a full time carer for my son who has diverse Neurodevelopmental, anxiety and learning needs. Through my own experiences and his, I started to volunteer for the local Parent Carers Forum. Through my volunteering I have supported and contributed to the Steering Group, to deliver a range of activities, events and workshops, with health, social care and educational services, with a view to support parents and carers of 0 to 25 years olds with learning and physical disabilities.  This experience has strengthened my understanding of the challenges faced by Parent Carers. I'm very passionate about improving the mental health of Parent Carers by reducing isolation, improving communication with services and educational settings, and empowering individuals with guidance to navigate their personal journeys.   Recently I trained with the Forum to deliver the "Healthy Parent Carer Programme" which was created to improve the resilience of Parent Carers by meeting their needs, so they can support their young people.

In October 2023 I was offered the opportunity to become a Parent Governor for King Edwin. I envisage that my newly appointed position of Parent Champion at King Edwins will equip me with other parents' voices and experiences of the school, which I can feed into the strategic decision  making process at the Governor meetings.

Personally, when I have some spare time, I love to be outdoors. This can be simply going for a walk in my local area. However, when I'm feeling brave, a bit of wild swimming in the summer months.  I also love reading, watching True Crime box sets and nights out to listen to live music.
